Llanymynech Hill, near Welshpool. This massive pre-Roman Iron Age hillfort occupies the whole of this 60 hectare (150 acre) hilltop and is one of the largest in Britain. It is said to be the site of Carradoc's last battle against the invading Roman armies. The hill, which is crossed by Offa's Dyke, also contains the remains of extensive mining and quarrying activity - some possibly dating from the Bronze Age and Roman periods.
