Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway

The Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway weaves its way through the delightful Banwy Valley and gives you the chance to see deer and birds of prey, heron, kingfisher and even otters. It was originally used to transport sheep, cattle and locally grown timber from Llanfair to Welshpool Canalside through the town centre.

The line has been reclaimed over the years by a group of dedicated enthusiasts, the engines polished and carriages painted to gleaming perfection. The locomotive collection includes open balconied Austrian carriages dating from the turn of the century and other historic vehicles from Austria, Sierra Leone and Hungary.

If your visit coincides you may even get the chance to ride on Thomas the Tank Engine or one of his friends.
